giddy over cleaning products...I so need a life...

Between my back deciding to give me some trouble, a day filled from top to bottom with meetings, and my poor little Lucas being sick YET AGAIN...this week has not turned out at all as I had planned.  My dear daughter is off for spring break this week, and I was hoping to get some fun 'girl time' in with her, but so far, it just has not been able to happen.  Sometimes life can be so uncooperative.  All the best 'intentionality' can just go right out the window, and all I can do is just try to roll with the punches!

Well, I did at least get my closet challenge done...and let me just say, I'll be getting a bit more of a 'makeover' than I bargained for...but that story will have to wait a few more days.  It'll be a good one, I promise.  ;)

For now, I wanted to share with you something I'm still so very excited about.  As I eluded to in my last post, I got some new cleaning products, and they just make me giddy.  That so totally makes me a complete dork, I know...who gets excited about cleaning products??  Well, I do when they work good AND they will help save me some money in my oft mentioned pulled tighter-than-tight budget grocery budget.  (Of course, not that we eat cleaning supplies...but my 'grocery' budget is categorized and "groceries and 'supplies'.  Not that you care, I'm just sayin'...I get excited when I feel like I'm doing something good for the budget.)

Anywho...last week I talked about the many things I 'inherited' from my grandparents.  One of those things that came back to me recently (when I was reminded by another blogger singing the praises of this) was the fact that my Grandma used something called Basic H to clean everything.  Literally, I think every she cleaned every single thing with this stuff.  It's made by a company called Shaklee, and their main 'mission' is promoting a healthy life.  They have a variety of products, most of which I've never tried, but all promote a healthy, and environmentally friendly, lifestyle.  While I can't promote or vouch for any other products (simply because I haven't tried them), the cleaning products that I have used I have been absolutely thrilled with.  This is what they have to say about their "Healthy Home" cleaning products...
"...nontoxic and natural cleaning choices that are SAFE, POWERFUL, GREEN and SMART. Because when it comes to keeping your house clean and the earth safe, you shouldn’t have to choose."
I can tell you, the thing I love the MOST about Basic H2 (their multipurpose cleaning concentrate) is that I only need to use such a tiny little bit to make pretty much all the cleaning products I need!  This picture shows how much of the bottle of concentrate I used to mix up a whole GALLON of floor cleaner, and spray bottles of window cleaner, degreaser, and multi-purpose cleaner (for counters and such).  Amazing!

I decided to put the degreaser to the test on my something-exploded-a-while-ago-and-has-been-getting-cooked-on-ever-since microwave.  A seriously tough job.  All I did was spray it on, let it go for a few minutes (to be quite honest, I sprayed it on, made a quick trip to the bathroom and came right back) and everything wiped out with ease with just a wet washcloth.  Simple as that.  Here's the before and after to prove it...

Dat dere's some good stuff.  In addition to the Basic H2, I also happen to love the scouring paste.  I must admit, at least half of my adoration of this product is the wonderful smell and the childhood memories that smell evokes.  But in addition, it works great!!  Again, some 'before and afters' for you to see for yourself...
As you can tell, I can't say enough good things about the Shaklee products I've tried so far.  (And just so you know,  while you can order through a distributor, I am not one, so I'm not making any money off convincing you how good this stuff is.  I just actually like it that much...and you know I always like to share what works for me!)  If you're interested in moving away from chemical cleaners, and using some great products, I'd recommend checking out their website.  I can't claim to be a totally 'green' freak by any means, but I am trying to be more aware of things when I can, and I do really like the idea of what I'm spraying all over my house being more natural.  (That being said, I'll still post my disclaimer at the bottom of this post!)  If you'd like to know more about some of the other products, let me know.  My sister bought a bunch of stuff to try recently, and I'm pretty sure I can force ask her to do a 'guest post' to give you the scoop on the laundry detergent, dryer sheets, wipes and more!

(Disclaimer - Just for the record, I will admit, after all this sickness, I'll still be doing some serious wipedowns around here with my good 'ol Clorox wipes!!  Door knobs beware...you will still be getting the "kills 99.9% of germs" treatment for a little while yet!)
