hold the pasta

Every week I go through the same exasperating process of trying to find something new to make for dinner. And every week I give up and make the same old things: chicken (baked or fried in every way imaginable); tacos; meatloaf and spaghetti (occasionally I'll throw in some ham for variety). Those are the staples of our mealtimes. And frankly, I'm sick to death of them!!

The root of my problem is trying to find things that don't have pasta as the foundational ingredient. It looks to me like pretty much every casserole known to man includes pasta of some kind! I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and start making it...but after our last fiasco (see the post entitled "The Great Casserole War" if you missed that one) I'm not too excited about the prospect of another mealtime showdown.

Anyway, I guess I should just start making things the other 5 members of my family will enjoy... Any words of wisdom or good recipes for me???

I see others beat me to it. How do you feel about rice? Do you often serve potatoes? Have you visited "Menu Plan Monday?" http://orgjunkie.com/menu-plan-monday

Every Monday a bunch of people post their menus for the week and very often post recipes or link to them at least. It's great for getting out of the rut. So many of the posters are moms looking for things thier families will eat, so we're all in the same boat together!

Thanks for the suggestions guys...rice is something I often forget about, but would be an option. He doesn't love it, but is better about it than pasta or potatoes. Potatoes we are working on...he still can't tolerate mashed, but is now up to eating hash browns...so that's progress! :)

I will definitely check out that website Thia...thanks for the tip.

I wonder if a shepherd's pie could be done with those frozen hash browns or with small chunks of potatoes instead of mashed?
