what irks you??

I saw a book advertised this week called "Is it just me? Or is it nuts out there?" by Whoopi Goldberg. In the book she talks about things that seem impolite, uncivil or just really irk her. I found some of the things rather amusing (though, she does touch on some more serious topics like drunk driving and domestic abuse), and it got me thinking about some of the things that annoy me. And THEN I realized how often I DO those very things myself! Ah!

Anyway, here's a few of mine. So, what are the things that secretly really get under your skin? C'mon...you can tell me.... ;)

OK...here goes:

  1. I get slightly frustrated when people don't RSVP to things. And I am so terrible about it myself, so I really have no right. But, thinking about it did drive me to do a little researching to find out the "proper ettiquette" for the RSVP. It comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond". That means please give a yes OR NO. It doesn't mean only let me know if you're coming and if you're not, then just ignore this. Again...I'm certainly not finger pointing - I totally plead guilty on this one. But just thought I'd bring clarity...in case anyone thought you only need to respond if your answer is yes. (If you'd like to know more about the ins-and-outs of RSVP, check it out here.)
  2. I get really frustrated when people cancel out on me at the last minute. However...
  3. I get super frustrated when people make up lame excuses about why they can't come/do something. I'd rather just know...I'm tired, I need a night with my family or I just don't feel like it. I'd handle that better than some poor excuse about how your hamster has whooping cough and you'll need to be nursing him through the evening with warm compresses and a medicine dropper. (Okay, obviously totally making that up and not an excuse I've ever heard!) :)
  4. And one final one... Texting during church. Just sayin'.
Sooo....what about our fast-paced, reduced manner, technology driven society irks you?

I hate texting in general. People can't live without talking to each other any and every second of the day??? Please. Not to mention, it is all abbreviated and doesn't make any sense. It just makes people look like itiots. And people do it everywhere! Seriously, can't you sit at the Dr office and just read a magazine, or book for 20 minutes??? Seems like something that is truely wasteful to me. People pay extra to have that function, but they could have called someone and gotten all the questions and answers done at once. Makes no sense! I'm sorry... I'm starting to get bitter... Plus, my hubby has a phone that chimes everytime he gets an email. Seriously? Can't you just check your email a couple times a day? Okay, I'm done... Ooo girl, you done opened a can of worms!

Warm compresses for your hamster w/ whooping cough. That was pretty funny.

Oh, I totally agree w/ the RSVP thing--and I'm guilty as well.

Texting during church--or even a cell phone ringing during church is annoying--but I must admit that one time mine rang just as the eulogy at a funeral began. Talk about embarrassing!

Other irks--

1) Nervous laughs. People who laugh at the end of a sentence as if it's punctuation. I think, "Please, it's not that funny, but you make me feel like I should laugh, too."

2. Dogs barking incessantly outdoors while the owners are gone and we are trying to sleep.

3. The phrase "OMG" . It's taking the Lord's name in vain, abbreviated.

I have many more, but I will stop here. Can of worms, to be sure!
